I was surprised when I heard the sim card registration drive of the goverment will include private telecom companies capturing biometrics. I really don't know the point of this.
The point of the sim card registration is to ensure criminals do not have the liberty to anonymously purchase a sim card and make fradulent calls. How will the sim card registration fight this?
I can purchase a valid drivers' license with just 5000naira and provide any unverifiable address.
The government cannot shift its responsibilities to private individuals. They should fix the corruption in national identity management. They should fix the address system. They should fix these before talking about registering sim cards.

What steps are being taken to ensure data is protected? I do not even trust the Nigerian government with my information talkless of private companies.
