Moving to graduate school immediately after an undergraduate degree is the new fad in Nigeria and probably globally due to high levels of unemployment. I'm not convinced that this is right. I'm under a bit of pressure to proceed to graduate school even though I'm not sure of the direction I want to take. Should I go for a MBA or an MSc that does not tie to any experience I have?
I have a couple of acquaintances that proceeded to obtain a Master degree and are competing for the few entry level positions that are available for bachelor degree holders, making it even more difficult for bachelor degree holder to find a job. The Masters degree does not in anyway add any value to the job functions they are eventually given as a new employee.
Isn't it better to have a few years of experience in the field you want to specialise in and a clear sense of direction before going for an advanced degree? Or is it proper to look at it as an investment with the promise of a higher pay even though there is no matching experience?
