I don't understand the divine intervention element. Yeah, it's good to pray and all that but I don't believe you will see a vision of the wife you want to marry or something like that. The bible even says he that findeth a wife findeth a good thing. Find is an active word. God will not do the finding for you. Besides, religious people say that whatever happens is bound to happen (fate). So if what happens is bound to happen, then it's going to happen anyway whether you pray or don't pray.

Seeking divine intervention on many issues is just an excuse to blame someone other than oneself for things in life that do not proceed perfectly. God helps those who help themselves - we have been created with intellect and conscience, so we need to use these as best as we can. Why act like jelly fishes and seek divine intervention when we can do perfectly well on our own?

Honestly, I believe no one is fit for the kingdom. That's why what is required of us is to repent and have faith that we are fit for the kingdom regardless.

Sounds like some people in that church need true enlightenment. Sounds like they also need to understand that flogging is not an option :)

though I dont understand the kind of divine intervention you meant, but seeking God's intervention before you marry is a necessity, God is not going to come down to chose your partner for you, we need to acknowledge God in everything we do so that He can direct our path, and also for us to make the right choice and recognize that person when they come, marriage is a serious business and a life time thing.

i think i also support the elders, these days one has too be really careful when it comes to choosing a life partner, especially if one intend to have a long lasting marriage but whichever way i think it's left to each individual to decide. A good counselling is also necessary and essential before marriage and one need to be prayerful.
